Retro Games Online Website Review
Thank you for using The Website Doctor for your Free Website Review!
When I first read the title, I was expecting a website full of retro online games, like Pac-Man and Sonic. When I saw it was a website for selling retro games, I was surprised. There is nothing wrong with that though
I think your website looks too modern at the moment. When you think retro games, you think Pac-Man and them sort of games. I think your website would benefit from a black background. It would make it look more ‘retro’.
Your header is really big, and actually only really needs to be on one line. Maybe stick some Pac-Man ghosts or sonic characters in it somewhere.
The pictures you use do look ‘unprofessional’. Here is a tip, Put the item in a bath tub, then take the picture from above, the flash will provide a good lighting as it reflects off the bath, and it will give the photo a good background. Just make sure the bath is clean first
If your shop is called ‘Retro World’, I recommend that you use that logo and name for your website, then put ‘online’ at the end. This helps customers to know that they are at the correct site immediately. Then on your contact page, you have ‘write to retro world’, which is another different logo. That’s three different logos you have for your business so far!
On the ‘Sell Your Games’ section, I recommend you put something that gives the customers a rough price guide to what they should expect. This makes it easier for them because it gives them a rough estimation.
On your ‘Latest Products’ Widget, i think you should make it click-able so users can click it to see your latest products, instead of seeing them scroll down.
Maybe a grading system of the condition of the game would help. Price the good condition ones higher, because most people will start looking for the good condition items before moving to the lower conditions. Maybe a star rating under each thumb nail.
When you go into a product page and hover over the picture to see an enlarged image, two things happen. The picture moves in front of the title of the item. I would tell you to move the title of the item so it is in line with the picture, not hanging over it. The other thing that happens is you get a box with the picture in, in the product description box. If you try it you will see what I mean. I don’t think that should happen.
I’m not too keen on the ‘boxed’ and ‘unboxed’ part. The customers will be looking for a particular game, so will have to search both boxed and unboxed categories. I would say to merge the categorises together so its easier for customers to view.
The email in the footer should be click-able, so when the user clicks it they are taken to Microsoft outlook (Or other Email software) where they can send a message easily.
